Is mechatronics degree worth anything?

To some companies yes! But many people/ engineers do not know what mechatronics is or understand it. It is a term that was fashionable in the 90's but it never really caught on and is not widely used, although it appears to be popular still in North American universities. Essentially I suggest "systems engineering" which has more emphasis on control aspects or, for popularity, "robotics"! The content of a mechatronics degree is worth something and will be worth more in the future, I think. Who's going to design all the domotics (domestic robots) that I am eagerly awaiting?

^^ I don't know who's going to design them, but don't you think Dombots is a much more catchy name?

[edit] External Links

Okay...these external links are a little out of control. I'm going to start by removing links that aren't English since this is English Wikipedia. When someone (possibly myself) gets a chance links should be removed that don't have significance. (Significance might mean something like being the first Mechatronics Engineering program in Canada (Like the University of Waterloo), or a well known Mechatronics Institute). I've made the changes, in going through all of these links even the remaining ones mostly are just programs and really contribute nothing to the article. Is there any objection to removing these leaving only links which give more information on mechatronics? It's a very subjective process deciding which are significant or not, and I left them for now and will wait for a few days for input, otherwise I'll weed out the useless pages. (Probably the unprofessional ones as well and try to fix up the links in alphabetical order) Jeff 13:05, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Agree generally - but it might be best to keep links to institutes, books and references. Djegan 17:20, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
That's what I was trying to convey in my last one. While I feel loyalty to the UW link (as I'm in the program) it seems that every education program just added their link to it and it became a big advertisement. I'll remove all the non institute/book/truely informative links. It really cleans up the page. All done and I believe I was very unbiased in my trimming of useless links. I think the word Simulation is meant to be simulation.
