[edit] History

Meadow Heights underwent a property boom in the late 1980s and early 1990s, as demand for new houses rose, forcing prospective buyers into the outer suburban area. In recent years, developers have focused their efforts on suburbs to the North, with very few new housing projects being completed since 2000.

[edit] Connections

Bordered on the East by Pascoe Vale Road, parkland on the west and an inaccessible Somerton Road to the north, Meadow Heights is served by two bus routes operated by Northern Bus Lines, the 541 and 542 services. There is also the 544, a new busline witch runs along Pascoe Vale rd, on the edge of Meadow Heights. The nearest train station is located approximately 4 kilometres to the south, at Broadmeadows station. The area is served extensively by local taxi companies.

[edit] Shopping and Attractions

Meadow Heights offers little in the way of attractions, with the nearest cinema complex being located to the south, in Broadmeadows. There are several youth centres for social activities, and there is both an AFL affiliated and a soccer team in the area.

There are around four milk bars; on Bicentennial Crescent and Magnolia Boulevard in the North, Taggerty Crescent in the centre, and one on ElDorado Crescent two the south.

The main shopping centre is located on Paringa Boulevard, and features a supermarket, newsagency/post office and numerous speciality shops.

There is also a Mosque in Meadow Heights which provides a means for worship for fellow muslims.

[edit] Ethnicity

A sizeable portion of Meadow Heights is non-Anglo-Australian, with the main ethnic groups being Turkish (about a quarter of Meadow Heights's population according to the ABS 2001 census), Lebanese, and, to a lesser extent, Syrian.
