McIntosh is a town located in Washington County, Alabama, along U.S. Highway 43. It is 12½ miles (20 km) south of Wagarville and 44 miles (71 km) north of Mobile. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 244.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²). 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 244 people in the town, organized into 94 households and 62 families. The population density is 94.2/km² (243.9/mi²). There are 98 housing units at an average density of 37.8/km² (98.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 55.33% White, 43.03% Black or African American, and 1.23% Native American. According to census records, there are no Asians, Pacific Islanders, or people from other races in the town. One person (0.41%) identified him- or herself as being from two or more races. One person considers him- or herself Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 94 households out of which 36.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.9% are married couples living together, 18.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% are non-families. 30.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.60 and the average family size is 3.27.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.5% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.6% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 83.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 72.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $28,214, and the median income for a family is $39,167. Males have a median income of $31,429 versus $22,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,023. 13.5% of the population and 10.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.2% of those under the age of 18 and 9.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
