McIntire is a city in Mitchell County, Iowa, United States. The population was 173 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.6 km² (1.0 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 173 people, 64 households, and 44 families residing in the city. The population density was 65.5/km² (170.2/mi²). There were 73 housing units at an average density of 27.6/km² (71.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.

There were 64 households out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.7% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.3% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 20.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.36.

In the city the population was spread out with 34.1% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 28.9% from 25 to 44, 16.8% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 101.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 107.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $26,875, and the median income for a family was $38,750. Males had a median income of $30,313 versus $12,188 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,319. About 10.9% of families and 7.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 6.3% of those sixty five or over.
