McGaheys Crossroads

McGaheys Crossroads is a crossroads in Northern Ireland.

Named after a local farmer Peter McGahey who resided all his life on a small farm situated near the crossroads. He was a well known and respected character in the area where most people will hold very fond memories of him and his family. The farm now deserted, it can be clearly be seen clearly from the roadside. it is in all appearances quite isolated and something of a haunting spectacle but it's well remembered by the older generation who can recall memories of days gone by. The crossroads link you to Pomeroy, Altmore, Shanmaghery and Cappagh. On a clear day the scenery from the crossroads is breathaking. The Mountains of Pomeroy and the Sperrins are clearly visible.

Interests

In a nearby field an Ancient grave is still visible though modern farming and age have taken its toll and its condition has deteriorated its appearance over the years. It is still a well known attraction and locals will always guide a visitor to its location if requested. At night the sky is crystal clear and must rank as one of the finest vantage points for anyone interested in astronomy.
