[edit] History

Co-founder of the Georgia Insurance Co., John Newton McEachern expressed great interest in the education of young people. His financial support and his donation of 240 acres of land enabled the establishment of a new school in Powder Springs. His attempts inspired donations for the school from civil-minded citizens. The Seventh District Agricultural and Mechanical School opened in February 1908. The only building on campus was a large two-story academic building of brick with huge white columns. In 1912, the building was rebuilt after a great fire. Other buildings were built beside it including; Girls' dormitories, Dining Hall, and Principal's Home. Many farming curricula were offered and the students raised livestock, vegetables, and even made bricks for the buildings.

Afterwards, the school expanded, becoming a college. The school was afterwards turned into the John McEachern High School. Most of the buildings and other facilities on campus have either been built or renovated since 1985.
