[edit] Places of interest
Maze is the site of HM Prison Maze, formerly a RAF station at Long Kesh. The prison was the main internment centre in Northern Ireland for suspected terrorists during the 1970s and was the focus of the 1981 Irish Hunger Strike. It closed in 2000 and the future of the site is going to be renovated and the new Northern Ireland National Stadium has been proposed to be going in with many other things, including a stadium for equestrians.
Maze also features the Down Royal Racecourse, where there has been horse racing since the 17th century, the oldest of its kind in all of Ireland.
