From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maytenus magellanica (hard log mayten) or (leña dura: in spanish) is a small evergreen tree from the genus Maytenus, up to 5 meters, in the Celastraceae. It grows in southern Argentina and Chile from 36º to Cape Horn (56º lat S). It has toothed leaves and is used as ornamental. As its native range includes the subpolar Tierra del Fuego, the plant's hardiness is appreciated and it has been successfully introduced in the Faroe islands.
