Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies is a Chabad-Lubavitch yeshiva for men located in Geula, Jerusalem, Israel. Its faculty and student body are mostly American, and the yeshiva is targeted towards American baalei teshuva (Jews who "rediscover" Orthodox Judaism later in life).

Contents

[edit] Educational philosophy

In contrast to other yeshivas such as Ohr Somayach, Jerusalem, Aish HaTorah, and Machon Shlomo, Mayanot focuses offers both a rigorous course in Talmud and codes as well as an emphasis on Chabad Hasidic philosophy and similar subjects.

[edit] Faculty

The Rosh Yeshiva is Rabbi Yisroel Noach Wichnin.

[edit] Accreditation

Mayanot is recognized by the College Consortium for International Studies, and is accredited school for higher learning through the Rabbinical College of America in Morristown, NJ. The Rabbinical College of America is accredited by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education and by AARTS (Association for Advanced Rabbinic and Talmudic schools).

[edit] Mayanot synagogue

Mayanot also maintains a community synagogue in Nachlaot, Jerusalem. Situated in the center of New Jerusalem, the site was originally purchased by leaders of the ancient Yemenite Jewish community. The structure was completed in 1919, encompassing two synagogues and a large house of study. During Israel's War of Independence, the building stood in the heart of the Jewish resistance. Mayanot has committed to rebuilding the space and dedicating it to the intent of its builders: to be a center of prayer and learning in downtown Jerusalem.

[edit] Other Mayanot programs

Through its affiliates, the Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies offers a Taglit-birthright Israel trip, an executive learning seminar, a synagogue in Jerusalem, and is a full-fledged Israeli tour provider.
