Maya Wilkes

Maya Wilkes is a fictional character on the television show Girlfriends . She has been played by Golden Brooks since the show's start in 2000.

Maya has been a law secretary for both lawyers Joan Clayton and later senior partner William Dent shortly before Joan left the firm. This caused a slight rift between Joan and Maya. Maya has a son, Jabari, that she had when she was 16 with her husband Darnell. After an emotional affair with Stan that did not lead to sex, Maya and Darnell divorced. During this period she wrote and published a self-help book called Oh, Hell Yes! In 2005, Maya interrupted Darnell's wedding to his fiancée, Lena. Darnell then dumped Lena and eloped with Maya to Las Vegas.

• Maya's husband has been played by 2 actors. Flex Alexander played Darnell until he was cast in another UPN show, One On One, when his role was recast with actor Khalil Kain

• Maya, during the earlier seasons, was shown to live on Avalon Boulevard in South Los Angeles. When Maya moved out after she was divorced, it was believed that she stayed in South L.A.

• Maya is 27

• Maya's trademark saying is "Oh, hell no!"
