Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology

The Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology [1] is a research institute of the Max Planck Society located in Martinsried, a suburb of Munich. It was created as "Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Psychiatrie" in 1917, and incorporated into the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gesellschaft 1925. The institute is located next to the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry since 1984. The institute was renamed to Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology in 1998. It is one of 80 institutes in the Max Planck Society (Max Planck Gesellschaft). The Institute is jointly organized by four Max Planck directors, covering the areas of molecular neurobiology, cellular and systems neurobiology, systems and computational neurobiology and neuroimmunology. In addition, several junior research groups enrich the spectrum of the institute by conducting research on diverse topics such as axonal growth and regeneration, axon guidance and neuronal connectivity, cellular dynamics, dendrite differentiation, signal transduction and synaptic receptor trafficking.
