Mauro Esposito (born June 13, 1979 in Torre del Greco, Naples) is an Italian footballer for Cagliari Calcio of Serie A. He plays in the role of offensive right wing, is tall 172 cm and weighs 70 kg.
Esposito made his professional debut in 1997/1998 for Pescara Calcio of Serie B, whereas his debut in the Italian top division was on 1999/2000 for Udinese Calcio. However, his time with Udinese was not particularly lucky, as he played just nine matches in two seasons. He plays for Cagliari since 2001/2002, and is one of the stars of the small Sardinian team. After very impressive seasons with Cagliari in 2003/2004 in Serie B and then 2004/2005 in Serie A, Esposito even gained space in the Italy national football team, making his debut with the azzurri on October 9, 2004 in a qualification match against Slovenia.
2005/2006 was not so good for Esposito, as the team failed to repeat the previous impressive season; however, thanks to a good ending a serie of fine performances, Esposito was reconsidered by coach Marcello Lippi, calling him for the pre-World Cup stage held on May 2 and 3.
He was called by new coach Roberto Donadoni, friendly against Croatia, 16 August 2006 as starter.
