Maurice Ahern is a Fianna Fáil member of Dublin City Council for the Cabra - Glasnevin Local Electoral Area. He was first elected in the 1999 Local Elections, topping the poll. He was re-elected in the 2004 Local Elections. Maurice Ahern was the Millennial Lord Mayor of Dublin is a former Alderman and is the former Leader of the Fianna Fáil group on the council.

He is the elder brother of current Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and of Noel Ahern, a Minister of State and TD for Dublin North West.

He is Married to Moira Murray-Ahern (Former Lady Mayoress) and has Five Sons and One Daughter.

Maurice Ahern is a keen sportsman and played a part in the Drafting of the 'Sports Manifesto' of Fianna Fáil over a number of years, he is a member of the Irish Sports Council

Maurice's daughter Aimee Ahern had been mentioned in speculation concerning whom was likely to be the third Fianna Fáil candidate in the forthcoming elections for Dublin North. She has been mentioned as a future FF Candidate.
