From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello Mattingly23 and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

Hi, when you write mascot articles, could you say what game is involved - it's not obvious if you're not American, thanks, jimfbleak 15:23, 8 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion. I updated the articles that I wrote. I also changed some of the changed some of the 'American' links that you made into whatever league its supposed to be in. I think this is more descriptive as there are multiple leagues of a sport. What's your opinion? Mattingly23 16:20, 8 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Sounds good to me - as a brit, the more upfront info the better, especially for something like the mascot articles, where the article is never going to be massive anyway. jimfbleak

[edit] Dicdefs for speedy deletion

Hi Mattingly! Just wanted to give you a heads-up that although Wikipedia is not a dictionary, dicdefs to not constitute speedy deletions (re: Supercilious). The proper thing to do would be to transwiki it and then add it to WP:VfD. (I've taken care of this.) But your tactic is a good one; the delete sure gets people's attention quick :-) Best, Diberri | Talk 00:42, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know that was the policy. - Mattingly23 00:51, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

No problem. And thank you for your wonderful contributions to Wikipedia's coverage of baseball topics. Nice work! --Diberri | Talk 01:02, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] About Ed Delahanty

Hello Mattingly. I'm sorry, I picked up your messages right now. Thank you. My regards, MusiCitizen 19:11, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup

Could you please add some reason for listing articles at Wikipedia:Cleanup ? It's a lot more efficient for all of us WikiCleaners. _R_ 23:09, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the advice - Mattingly23 23:14, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Pages self-linking

I've noticed that for most of the baseball articles you've started, they are listed under 'What links here' for their own pages; articles shouldn't link to themselves, and I can't seem to spot why these listings are turning up. (For a few of your early articles, you were mistakenly using double brackets rather than triple quotes to boldface the name at the beginning of the article, but you haven't done that for some time.) Do you have any idea why the articles appear to be self-linking? MisfitToys 23:34, Aug 10, 2004 (UTC)

I have no idea, I was wondering that myself. I thought maybe it did that for all pages. Is there anyone to ask to see what the problem is? - Mattingly23 23:35, 10 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] wheaties athletes

hey, noticed you were doing a lot of baseball related articles and i have come across a trove of unwritten articles while working on List of athletes on Wheaties boxes. if you ever get bored/time/desire, browse through the list and pick some of them to write about (i've got a lot of them organized with sport played and date depicted). it'd make the list a little more useful to have a few more "champions" with information.

and keep up the nice work on the baseball stuff, looks good poroubalous 05:15, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind. Here's another partial list, there are some on here not in the article: http://www.wheaties.com/champions/championslist.asp - Mattingly23 12:39, 11 Aug 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Baseball project

Hi. I noticed your message on Matt j's talk page about a standard for baseball biographies. I had been thinking about that for a while myself now and started a project to find a standard template that could be used for all players. It is wide-open and there is plenty to discuss. Feel free to play with it as you please. Yardcock 22:47, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Progress Report

I am back after a few days absence. I would love to hear what progress you have made on establishing a baseball standard. Indrian 22:55, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Hello Mattingly23

I would like to wish you a happy new year! MusiCitizen 19:29, Dec 31, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Return of the Untagged Image project

You were kind enough to contribute to the Wikipedia:Untagged images project; I beg to draw your attention to part 2 of the project - there are about 12,000 more images in need of tagging. Any assistance you could provide would be most welcome. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk)

[edit] Moving pages

Please use the "Move" tab (to the right of history to move pages rather than blanking them and copy and pasting. Thanks! OvenFresh² 18:57, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Millencolin

Hey, Mattingly23. I would like to ask you a question, are you a fan of Millencolin? Because I can see you've been working on articles of their albums. -- Mike Garcia | talk 20:29, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright comment

I non-answered your old image copyright question at Wikipedia_talk:Image_use_policy#Is_this_photo_fair_use_or_public_domain.3F (SEWilco 04:46, 13 Mar 2005 (UTC))

[edit] V for Vendetta

No, there's nothing wrong with IMDB mistakes, you just put the link in the wrong place. If you take a look, this is the page for the comic (where you put the link), while this is the page for the film (where such links would belong). No biggie, it's an easy mistake to make. --InShaneee 20:25, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for opinion

I'd prefer not to drag other people into this, and I know you've indicated a wariness of getting further involved, but could you make some comment at Talk:Jake Daubert? I'd be most interested in additional opinions in the dispute between me and Tecmobowl as to the article content. I suspect outside voices are the only way this is going to be resolved, as I can't fathom his insistence on removing the various content discussed. MisfitToys 21:02, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Baseball entries

Thanks for your compliment and comments. Regarding trivia, it's kind of a tough call, because by its very definition it implies small and unimportant. Yet...many people find trivia entertaining and informative. I do see what you mean, though, how some trivia can be more (or less) notable than others. (Do you feel that it detracts from the quality of an article, or do you have a dislike for trivia in general?) Anyway, I will be happy to refrain from stuff that seems too obscure, as in the examples you mentioned. I have seen from your writings that you have a thorough knowledge of baseball, and I certainly respect your opinion. I would still like to incorporate trivia into some pieces, though, as it can serve to introduce the reader to a player they were not familiar with, thus expanding their baseball knowledge. Anyway, happy editing...hope to communicate again in the future. BurmaShaver 02:39, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Did you know?

Updated DYK query On 30 November 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Heinie Reitz, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

[edit] Babe Ruth Edits

I fixed the typo issues. My edit summary was pasted into the field and just too long. With regards to the Ruth article, I'm curious to see how you purpose to improve the article. I think that length and pertinent information are the major issues here. The article reads too much like a stat book at this time and I believe that should be focused on more than anything else. Remember, the article is about Ruth, not the Yankees, Ruth's grandparents, or his teammates. I have tried to piece together and pull out as much good information as i could without removing work others did. Remember, encyclopedias are not books. Dry and straight forward writing, while not as pleasing aesthetically, is more inline with WP:STYLE. I'm watching this page so please continue the discussion here or on Talk:Babe Ruth. // Tecmobowl 17:03, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
