That sentence about it being interesting about the Haydon boy always getting the top UAIs may come under POV wording, you may want to watch that in future. But I'm leaving it there because Haydon deserves a gloat. Dac 11:55, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rotuma

Hi there! Thank you for you kind note on my user page. I've seen you about before but didn't realize you were Rotuman. I've just spent the last hour perusing some of your articles, adding categories and cross-links to other articles, etc. I found them extremely interesting, and look forward to seeing many more contributions from you. When I joined Wikipedia in early 2004, there were a total of eight (8) articles that mentioned Fiji, and only one that mentioned Rotuma. Can you believe it? For a couple of years, I worked almost alone to create a corpus of articles about Fiji - more than 500, in fact. I began to wonder whether anybody else was ever going to come on board. Xorkl000, Girmitya, Laulad, and now yourself, have helped breath new life into the project. There are still huge gaps in our coverage of Fiji (compared to most English-speaking countries), and the people, villages, customs, geography, and history of Rotuma and its outliers really need an expert contributor. I'm so glad to see you here, and look forward to working with you. If you are willing, I'd encourage you to join WikiProject Fiji (just follow the link and sign up). I promise you, nobody will pressure you to write anything - but it will mean that you'll be a valued member of our team and anything you contribute will be integrated with everyone else's. Welcome! [edit] Vunivalu of Bau

Hi there! It's good to hear from you again, Matt. Don't apologize for being "such a keen newbie" - we need more people with that kind of passion for the project! I'll have a look in a moment at the articles you created - thanks! And no, cited sources don't have to be on the net. You can cite books and newspaper articles (you need to name the author, chapter, etc.). Have a great day, and God bless you also! David Cannon 09:19, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Wow I dont have much knowledge on Fijian cultures before the 20th century but Iam honoured that you asked for my help and I will do my best because I think writing about the chiefly background of Fiji and Rotuma is a good endeavour and I hope me and David Cannon would be of help to you in your conquest..hehe..ø~Cometstyles~ø(talk)

[edit] Penaia Kadavulevu

Hello again! Just a query about Penaia Kadavulevu. I see the article indicates that he reigned from 1901 to 1914 - and several external sources seem to confirm that - but you also say that he was a member of the legislative council in the 1920s. If he was still alive, was he no longer the vunivalu - or is the date simply wrong? Just wondering. David Cannon 09:52, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Solkope

Hi Matt! There has been a long dispute over several pages having to do with the DOM Scam, including your home island of Solkope. Someone has been coordinating a propaganda campaign to try to legtimize DOM by pushing their point of view (POV) in the articles related to it. I have no problem with something being written, if it is indeed not pushing the DOM POV. There is so much history to the whole thing that it would take a long time to go through.

When you visit the article for Solkope, you can click on the tab that says "history" and go through it and look at all the edits (I'm sure you know this as it looks like you've been active for awhile). That will help you see what was done in the past. There was also an arbitration case against the person in question and you can find that by going to the main article about DoM and looking at the talk page. I'd encourage you to read the main article about DoM as there is some useful information and sources you could use to cite for the Solkope article.

You might also seek out help from Gene Poole, as he is pretty knowledgeable about micronations in general. I've read quite a bit specifically on DoM and have a bunch of articles bookmarked on my computer. The general consensus is that Wikipedia should not be used to legitimize DoM and that's what we are trying to protect against.

By the way, I am also a pretty big fan of Barrack Obama. I'm not 100% sure if I'll support him, but I'm definately leaning that direction. In a way I'm still praying that Gore gets in the race and knocks Hillary Clinton senseless (not that she ever had any in the first place). It will be interesting to see what happens though.

Let me know if you need help. I'm not around as much as I used to be, but I'll check in from time to time to see what's going on. Also make sure to sign your posts with ~~~~ when you put a comment on a talk page so people know who you are. Davidpdx 11:26, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I added something about Rotuma to this article version:

[1] however, Davidpdx reverted it. Perhaps it you rewrite the relevant paragraph under heading Mark Logan Pedley it will be more accurate and more acceptable to Davidpdx and others. I agree with you that these are historical events and should be covered in the Solkope and Rotuma articles. Harvardy 00:47, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ni sa bula vinaka

Hey thanks for the nice reply. And you're right, there is a lot of work needed on Pacific articles generally - not only under-represented, but often laden with mistakes, so keep up the good work.

By the way, seeing how interested in Fiji you are, there is a group of articles about Fijian traditional religion that I was going to look at fixing, but it was a bit out of my area of knowledge. They are Bulu (Fijian mythology), Degei etc - most of the articles in this category: Category:Fijian mythology. The articles seem to have been copied from Encyclopedia Mythica and are garbled, as is usual with Encyclopedia Mythica. I tracked down what looks to me like the ultimate source: Chapter VII of Fiji and the Fijians, an old book which is available online as a PDF [2]. It might be worth a look (you can download it), and being so old there are no copyright issues. Kahuroa 19:26, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
