Matthew Wood is an English cricket player, who plays for Somerset Sabres. There is another Matthew Wood playing for Yorkshire CCC but he is of a lower class in terms of batting.

Wood scored 53 at the Northamptonshire v Somerset (25-27 May) match.

At Somerset v Worcestershire (8-11 June) he got a 127.

Made 95 on Somerset v Durham UCCE 9-11 April 2005

In the same season that captain Graeme Smith got 311 against Leicestershire County Cricket Club, Wood scored 297] against a poor Yorkshire County Cricket Club side. He got out trying to hit a 6 to bring up his 300, but instead hit it straight down the throat of the man at long on.

After Graeme Smith left in 2005, he was appointed as the club's official vice captain.

Nicknames for Matthew Wood include "grandma" (because he watches Antiques Roadshow), "mini moo" - perhaps because some people think he looks like a cow and "Woody".
