From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sir Matthew Smith (1879 - 1959) was an English painter.
He studied at the Manchester School of Art from 1900-04 and the Slade School of Art from 1905-07 before spending time in France, studying at Henri Matisse's school and drawing influence from him and the other Fauves. This influence can be seen in paintings such as Fitzroy Street Nude No. 1 (1916) and his series of Cornish landscapes.
