Matthew Sadler (born February 26, 1985 in Solihull, England) is an English football player who currently plays for Birmingham City F.C. as a defender.
Sadler was captain of the England national football team at both under-16 and under-17 level, and started two Premiership games straight after Christmas, including one match against Manchester United F.C., meaning his debut was playing against David Beckham.
He signed for a two-month long loan period to Northampton Town in 2003, playing eight games in that period, and, in May 2004, signed a new contract to keep him at Birmingham City.
In the 2005-2006 season, Matthew Sadler returned to play for the Birmingham first team in the fa cup replay vs Reading at St. Andrews as a substitute. This was his only appearance until around April time when Sadler got a starting place vs Chelsea at home. His return coincided with the Blues starting to pick up points and make the club's relegation seem less likely. He stayed in the starting line-up for the remaining games.
Sadler has so far been ever present in the Blues quest to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.
