Matthew Lecroy (born Dec 13, 1975) in Belton, South Carolina is a baseball player in Major League Baseball. After his high school years Lecroy attended Clemson University. His thick frame and his smoking bat were big parts to the team chemistry. He also was an avid tennis player who loved any competition. In 1997 he was selected as the Sandwich Pick (50th overall) by the Minnesota Twins. Three years later, in 2000, he made his debut for the Major League Baseball team. He hit a measly .174 for the team and it was apparent he wasn't ready. It would take him a few more years until he fit well with the club. In 2003 Lecroy belted 17 home runs in 345 at-bats and a .287 average yet he still went on with little recognition. He was a rarity because he played both first base and catcher; he was also regarded as a team leader in the clubhouse. He was a solid pinch-hitter and designated hitter for the club for a few more years. However, the Twins, tired of his slow speed, constant strikeouts, and problems with his weight, opted not to resign him. The same year, Baseball's free-agency market took him to the Washington Nationals.
