Matthew "Matt" Hayes Hooper is the former Director of Media Relations for the Birmingham Steeldogs arenafootball2 team in Birmingham, Alabama. He began covering the team in 2001 as a columnist for ArenaFan.com at the age of 16. Near the end of the 2001 season, Hooper began a two-year internship with the franchise, lasting until his promotion to Public Relations Assistant under former department head, Michael Bencs.

Bencs left his post in January 2005, opening the door for Hooper to become the youngest media relations director in the history of professional football at age 20. He officially accepted the title of Steeldogs's Director of Media Relations on January 31, 2005, still a year away from finishing his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Upon receiving his degree in journalism from the University in December of 2005, Hooper continued on as the team's media relations director until August 2006, when he resigned following the team's seventh season. He went on to join the staff of The Birmingham Weekly in September of 2006.

Hooper is married to the former Melinda Davison. The couple currently resides in the Birmingham suburb of Pelham.
