Matthew Thomas Schobel (born November 4, 1978 in Columbus, Texas,) is a tight end for the National Football League Philadelphia Eagles. A former quarterback at Columbus High School and Texas Christian University, the 6-foot, 5-inch, 250 pound Schobel is a pass-catching tight end. His nickname, "The Schoboat" is a play on his surname, which is pronounced SHOW-bul. He is the younger brother of Buffalo Bills defensive end Aaron Schobel and the cousin of Indianapolis Colts defensive end Bo Schobel.[1]

Matt Schobel originally signed with Texas A&M as a quarterback in 1997. He was redshirted as a freshman, and decided to transfer to Texas Christian, sitting out the 1998 season per NCAA transfer rules. Due to his size and surprising quickness and mobility, he was converted to tight end in 2000 and played three seasons (1999-2001) at TCU.

Matt Schobel was drafted by Cincinnati in the third round (the 67th player overall) of the 2002 NFL draft.
A terrific receiver who runs crisp pass routes (and occasionally, has held for field goal attempts,) the primary criticisms of Schobel have been that he's a comparatively weak blocker and gains little yardage after the catch. He's also been hampered by hamstring injuries.
