Matt Nokes

Matthew Dodge Nokes (born October 31, 1963, in San Diego, California) was an American Major League Baseball catcher with an 11 year MLB career from 1985 to 1995. He played 902 total games for the San Francisco Giants and Colorado Rockies both of the National League, and the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles all of the American League. In addition to catcher, Nokes played at first base, third base, outfield, and designated hitter through his career.
In 1987, his rookie season, Nokes had his greatest statistical success, hitting .289 with 32 home runs for Detroit. That year he was elected to the American League All-Star team, won the Silver Slugger award for American League catchers, and finished third in AL Rookie of the Year voting.
Following his MLB career, Nokes played for the St. Paul Saints of the Northern League in 1998 and 1999, with a brief two-game stint with Cordoba of the Mexican League. He spent 2001 as a player/manager for the Schaumburg Flyers of the Northern League, and coached the Joliet JackHammers (also of the Northern League) in 2002 and 2003.
