[edit] Matt in Brookside

Matt first appeared on Brookside Close when he and his family moved into Number 8 in October 1998, after the property had been vacated by The O'Leary Family previously. During his time on the close, Matt befriended Tim O'Leary, Leo Johnson and his cousin Jerome.

Compared to the rest of his family's dramas Matt played a bit part and was usually the comic relief of the family. Matt spent most of his time hanging around with his mate Bosko getting into various scrapes.

That Christmas, The Musgroves were dealt a blow when Matt's Eldest brother, Luke was accused of raping Neighbour Nikki Shadwick which lead to a feud between the Musgroves and Shadwicks.

In Early 2000, The Musgroves left the close under the Shadow of darkness and fled back to Ireland following Luke's confession to actually raping Nikki (Luke had served time on remand but was eventually acquitted).

Matt later moved to Chester and took a Custodial Job at a College.

A likeable Liverpudlian, who became involved with Scott Anderson's criminal schemes in order to pay for his wedding to Chloe Bruce. He arrived at HCC as a caretaker and became close friends with Theo Sankofa and Alex Bell. He fell for HCC student and radio show host Chloe Bruce. However, he wasn’t to keen on asking Chloe out as he felt that she may dislike him because of his occupation. Therefore, Matt decided to phone her on her radio show and pretended to be someone he is not. When Matt finally revealed himself, Chloe was disappointed- leaving Matt’s worst fears confirmed.

Despite this set back, Chloe decided to give Matt a chance and the pair became a popular couple among the show. The relationship was going well, until Chloe had self image issues and began to push Matt away. This resulted in the pair breaking up, which left Matt disappointed as he really loved Chloe. A one night stand soon followed with new student Eve Crawford, but Matt was reluctant not to carry on with the relationship, as it was Chloe whom he wanted to be together with. Eventually, Matt and Chloe got back together, as Matt supported her through her problems and Matt even purposed to Chloe.

The pair became engaged and Chloe’s demands for the wedding proved to be expensive and Matt also wanted to give Chloe the best wedding ever. He turned to The Loft owner Scott Anderson, and soon became involved in Scott’s counterfeit money scam. Matt manage to pay for the Wedding with counterfeit money but it was to prove costly.

On his wedding Day, the police turned up and Chloe learnt the truth about Matt’s dealings with Scott. Knowing about Matt lies, Chloe decided she didn’t want to go through with the wedding, leaving Matt to face the police on his own.

Despite attempting to persuade Chloe to take him back, she refused leaving Matt to depart away from Hollyoaks. Matt, did make a brief cameo return in 2004, in the late night edition of ‘After hours’ where he was working as a sailor and helped Ben Davis, Jake Dean, Joe Spencer and Dan Hunter to escape from a mob who were running after them.
