Matt McLennan

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matt McLennan is an Ottawa-based musician and songwriter who grew up in, and retains strong ties to, the indie music scene in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. As a solo artist, McLennan has released three albums of earnest-core folk or anti-folk music, all of which have cracked the Earshot national Canadian campus top 200. He is perhaps best known, however, as a founding member of the bands Cone Five and Mr. Pine.

In over ten active years in the Winnipeg indie music scene, McLennan has been involved in a variety of additional successful, semi-successful and occasionally dismally received bands and projects. He was a core member of cowpunk outfit the Horribly Awfuls, and was a founding member of art-terrorism group the Rose Maylies. He released several cassettes and CD-Rs on his own small imprint, dismal failure records, in an effort to expose listeners to the efforts of like-minded, quirky local musicians. As a member of Cone Five, McLennan also helped usher in the Conifera Records scene, which lasted approximately from 2002-2005.

As of late 2006, McLennan is listed as active in the band Mr. Pine, as well as several studio projects (Myspace reference).
