Matthew (Matt) Wayne Freije (born October 2, 1981, in Overland Park, Kansas) is an American professional basketball player, currently a free agent. He was selected 53rd overall in the 2004 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat, was then released and later played for the New Orleans Hornets. He played 19 games for the Atlanta Hawks during the 2006-07 season but was waived in December 2006 to clear a roster spot for Slava Medvedenko.[1]
Freije played for Vanderbilt University from 2000-2004. In 2004 he was named First Team All-SEC and led the Commodores to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1993. He is also the leading scorer in Vanderbilt history, having surpassed Phil Cox in 2004.
