Matt Cooke "Cookie" (born September 7, 1978 in Belleville, Ontario) is a professional ice hockey player. He currently plays for the Vancouver Canucks of the National Hockey League, where he has been for his entire NHL career. His playing style has made him effective as a "pest" and he is therefore known for his ability to annoy opposing teams.
Prior to his selection Cooke played in the Ontario Hockey League, where he collected 168 points in his 174 career games. Cooke played with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League before joining the Vancouver Canucks in 1998.
During the 1998-1999 season Cooke split his playing time between the Syracuse Crunch and the Vancouver Canucks, he played 37 games for the Syracuse Crunch and 30 games for the Vancouver Canucks. The 2003-2004 season saw Matt Cooke's production fall off pace, and he finished with only 23 points as opposed to his total of 42 points the previous season, partly due to injury.
Matt Cooke is married and has 3 children: 2 daughters and a son.
For the 2006/2007 regular season, Cooke has been sporting "toothless smiles" with his good friend Brendan Morrison. Both players are suspected to have lost their front teeth during practices.
