Matsuura Seizan

Matsuura Seizan (1760-1841) a famed swordsman during the Edo period (17th century) of Japan. Seizan would be a practicer of Iba Hideaki's Shin gyoto ryu school of swordsmanship, in which Seizan was considered as an adept. Seizan would later claim the name of Joseishi after receiving the final transmission of the gyoto ryu school. Seizane had changed his name in connection with his new attained level within swordsmanship. Seizan would then write many essays which are present in the art of the sword, such as the "Kendan", "Kenko", and the "Koshi yawa". Through this, Seizan's works were commonly considered as foundations towards the study of Japanese swordsmanship. The famed Miyamoto Musashi had notably shown some reflection of Seizan's angle to swordsmanship within his art. The School of Musashi was truly developed through this, in which it formed many a branch, even extending into the time of present day.
