Math for America
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Math for America (MfA) is a nonprofit organization launched in 2004 with a mission to substantially improve mathematics education in United States public schools. MfA was founded by mathematicians, educators, and businesspeople who share the belief that improving teacher quality and keeping good teachers in the classroom will result in higher student achievement in mathematics.
MfA currently operates two New York City based pilot programs, the Newton Fellowship Program and the Newton Master Teacher Program. These programs are a model for national legislation introduced in the 109th Congress, the Math Science Teaching Corps.
Math for America is the brainchild of mathematician and philanthropist Jim Simons.
