Matej Bel University (Slovak: Univerzita Mateja Bela) is an university in the central Slovak town Banská Bystrica. It was established on 1 July 1992 and inaugurated on 23 October 1992. It is named after Matej Bel, an outstanding Slovak scholar in the 18th century.
