- the region of Central Java
- Mataram Kingdom, a Hindu-Buddhist kingdom which flourished in the region between 570 and 927 CE
- Mataram Sultanate, an Islamic kingdom based in the region which existed between the 1570s and 1755 approximately with the borders of contemporary Yogyakartan and Surakartan administrative regions.
- Mataram (city), a city on the Indonesian island of Lombok, named after the Javanese kingdoms
