IIRC, I found it via Google Images. It seems to be an old postcard. -- Smerdis of Tlön 19:07, 14 Feb 2004 (UTC)
I may be wrong about this. But even if a work is in public domain the "bits" of the image are copyright to the person who scanned it. Thus a piece of music might be public domain while stored in an old vinyl cd but when a record company takes the vinyl and "extracts" it into a new format (such as a cd rom) the new cd starts out with a fresh new copyright license. Edit: Here is a legal case that proves my point: http://www.law.cornell.edu/copyright/cases/36_FSupp2d_191.htm —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.13.3.52 (talkcontribs) 12:24, 17 December 2005 (UTC).
You may want to bring this up at WCommons (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Matahari.jpg). --PFHLai 16:38, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
