I removed them because they were not needed. The policy pages all have template banners that explain what the pages are and already contain the checkmark sign. Also the template is a usage of the CSS imagemap hack used by the Featured article process and Audio samples projects. These projects use this because it's metadata to the actual article and putting ugly banners on articlepages stating that fact is simply not a good idea. It has been decided in the past that this technique is allowed on userpages, but usage in wikipedia's main article space should be discussed before such a thing would be implemented.
