Route 40 is a short east-west Massachusetts state route that connects Groton and North Chelmsford. Its western end is at routes 119 and 225 in Groton, and its eastern end is at routes 3A and 4 in North Chelmsford. The route has existed since the late 1940s.
US 3 has an interchange at Route 40.
