Massachusetts Audubon Society

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Massachusetts Audubon Society, founded in 1896 and headquartered in Lincoln, Massachusetts, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to "Protecting the nature of Massachusetts." MAS is independent of the National Audubon Society, and in fact was founded earlier. Its founders observed and disliked the practice of using feathers of rare birds in ladies' hats, and founded the group to attempt to stop the practice.

As of 2007, MAS has 100,000 members, and welcomes visitors at 43 wildlife sanctuaries throughout the state.
