Maskeblomstfamilien

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Maskeblomstfamilien is a gloomy book by the Norwegian author Lars Saabye Christensen.

Maskeblomstfamilien was published in 2003 by Cappelen. Generally speaking, the novel is about a rather messed-up boy and his way to a total and certain downfall. His father dies when he is young, and his mother loses her mind, or as the main character puts it, she "goes to bed early".

The book is full of puzzling enigmas; the writer constantly throws out baffling messages, which as means of literature contributes to make out the books' distinctive stamp. The language in the book is highly poetic and embellished by the type of writing that is related to the peculiar author.

Maskeblomstfamilien was praised by the critics. Lars Saabye Christensen received the "Nordisk Råds Litteraturpris" for the book The Half Brother in 2001, the most prestigious prize a Scandinavian author can achieve, perhaps except the Nobel Prize.
