Mask of the Wraith
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mask of the Wraith is a fictional, magical item in the video game Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Its purpose is to allow a person wearing it to avoid destiny or fate. This happens by allowing the person to exist in the timeline at two different places during the same time. Another of its effects is to change the wearer's appearance to that of the Sandwraith. The mask, once worn, bonds with the wearer and cannot be removed until the other version of the wearer dies.
[edit] Origins
The Prince of Persia stumbled onto knowledge of this artifact while he languished in the lower levels of a prison on the Island of Time. As he waited for the Dahaka to kill him, he found a mural, depicting the adventure of a lone man who had fought and died for the Maharaja, but by using the Mask of the Wraith, he was able to travel back in time and change his fate... for the better.
The Mask of the Wraith was initially found mounted on the face of a shriveled mummy. A common theory about the Mummy and the health draining effects received through the mask are that the player is attaining the role of the sand wraith, and with sand there is a lack of water. Thus the mummy was dehydrated and shriveled when the player found it, and also that is the reason you lose health until you drink.
[edit] Appearance and effects
When not worn, the mask is bronze in color, covering only the eyes and forehead of the wearer. Once retrieved, the artifact grants players with self-regenerating sand tanks, in exchange of players' health being depleted at a slow but constant pace. This reduction in health does stop however, when the Wraith is reduced to a quarter of the maximum health the player would have, if no life extensions had been found.
