The Mask of Dark Earth is a fictional artifact from the video game Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves.

Buried in the Australian wilderness, the Mask is guarded by the Guru. When a band of miners starts digging for opals in the region, they unwittingly free the Mask. It appears again on a larger, more powerful guard after Sly and co. take over the local lemonade bar. With bombs set off by Bentley and barrels thrown by Murray, the creature was disoriented. This allowed Sly to defeat it, but it once again escaped. It appeared on another guard just before the guard was devoured by a crocodile, but escaped.
The gang later lured it out of hiding by disguising Murray as the Mask's ancient enemy, the Moon Spirit. It went after the Guru, only for Murray to fall from above in an attempt to crush it. However, it escaped the fate of the guard it possessed, and found a more enticing host: Carmelita Fox. Causing her to grow larger multiple times, the Mask made her chase after Sly Cooper.
Tricking Carmelita into disconnecting the Mask by climbing up her boot laces, jeans, and jacket onto it, the Cooper Gang was able to return her to normal. the Mask was destroyed by Carmelita's air forces, who were in turn destroyed in the explosion themselves.

When attached to a person's face, the Mask of Dark Earth causes that person to grow physically larger and more aggressive, while also apparently having an effect on their intelligence. Carmelita grew again when the Mask reacted with Bentley's Sleep Darts, and the dynamite she threw onto the truck they drove from her, causing her to become over 100 feet tall at the end. It also appears that the Mask causes larger growth in more aggressive subjects, as even before Bentley deployed his Sleep Darts, Carmelita grew much bigger than any other victim. When affected, a host of the Mask also gained a deeper voice, and in one situation appeared to have taken control of a guard's vocal faculties.
It seems that the longer one wears the Mask, the dumber, bigger, and more aggressive one gets. One aslo gets slower both mentally and phisicaly.
