Mascot is a census-designated place and town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,119 at the 2000 census.

Mascot is located at 36°4′2″N, 83°45′17″W (36.067257, -83.754678)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 18.4 km² (7.1 mi²). 18.0 km² (6.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (2.39%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 2,119 people, 877 households, and 612 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 117.7/km² (304.7/mi²). There were 934 housing units at an average density of 51.9/km² (134.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.89% White, 2.41% African American, 0.57% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.47% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.47% of the population.

There were 877 households out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.2% were married couples living together, 10.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.2% were non-families. 25.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.41 and the average family size was 2.90.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $29,717, and the median income for a family was $36,705. Males had a median income of $25,888 versus $21,032 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $14,717. About 2.7% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.4% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.
