Masashi Arai

Masashi Arai is a fictional character in the popular Japanese manga and anime series Prince of Tennis. He is an upperclassman at Seigaku. Although not yet a regular, Arai is seemingly the best reserve player on the team, and may sooner or later become a regular on his own. He is known for his hotheadedness, and hazing of weaker players; on the other hand, he's as hard on himself as he is on the others, during training, as noted by Sadaharu Inui when the first year students accuse him of bullying Kachiro Kato.
In the beginning of the anime, Arai plays against Ryoma Echizen and loses, badly. He is also later attacked in another episode by Yamabuki's Jin Akutsu; he questioned Akutsu's presence in the Seigaku grounds, and Akutsu attacked him and beat him up very roughly. He also is shown in the anime twice commanding the freshman during the period where the Goodwill Games were taking place.
Although initially somewhat of a jerk towards Ryoma, he comes to appreciate him and cheers for him during the match against Akutsu, and is typically seen supporting the team in future matches. In the manga, he gets very angry during the Doubles 1 Match against Rikkaidai. He also is the one who declares that the non-regulars will work harder with Tezuka off having his injuries heal.
In the anime, when Momoshiro and Kaido are late for a match, he and Kawamura are selected to get ready if they don't show up in time. Arai gets nervous, but the two show up at the last moment.
He is voiced by Liam O'Brien in the English version.
