[edit] Arr! Me thanks to you.

Arr, never seen such craftswomanship before. You willingly faced the monster of speling eirors in the depths of the Green Sea of death, where never before a soul left alive, arr! Your copyediting saved me crew and me mission, I wish you pots o' gold on your next treasure hunt. A merry life to you, may the winds of fortune sail you, Mary Read! [edit] Another request

Hi Mary,

Thanks again for copyediting the History of Balochistan article awhile back - it looks great. Would you be able to do the same for the Karamanid page? Much appreciated. --Khoikhoi 04:22, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

Sure thing. I've done a bit of tweaking; see what you think.
After reading over this article, I'd like to make a general suggestion—it could really use more dates to indicate when critical events occurred. I'll admit I am largely ignorant of Turkish history, so I'm probably not the best person to research these events, but it would be worthwhile to include this information if it is available. Mary Read 06:20, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Ok, thanks - I didn't write the article, but I see what you mean. BTW, are you a professional copy editor? --Khoikhoi 06:28, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I've worked as a copy editor in the past, although my current job description is "writer and slacker." Mary Read 06:41, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Hehehe. ;) If you're not busy, would you also be able to check out the Adana article? --Khoikhoi 06:47, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Voilá! Hope that's helpful. Mary Read 08:21, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Wow, thank you - it sure is! --Khoikhoi 08:27, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] request

Hi, I need your help. Could you, please, check Mehter ? --TuzsuzDeliBekir 17:15, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

I have taken a look. Saposcat has done some excellent editing as well. Mary Read 22:49, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hengsteysee

Hi Mary Read,

Thanks for copy editing my article Hengsteysee - I guess there really was a lot to be improved. If you like copy editing/proofreading you should check out this page. Here, all articles, which have recently been translated from the German-language Wikipedia into English are listed, since it is always good to have someone who doesn't speak the language, which is being translated from, look over an article. If you'd like to, it would be cool if you could look over some of the articles. There are probably similar pages for other languages, but I would have look to tell you where to find them.

Thanx,
CarabinieriTTaallkk 12:19, 11 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] And yet another!

Hey Mary,

I hope you don't mind, but would you be able to fix up the Ethnic cleansing of Georgians in Abkhazia article? Much appreciated. --Khoikhoi 03:34, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

I don't mind. How does it look? Mary Read 21:27, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
Great! Thanks again. --Khoikhoi 21:29, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Young Ireland Rebellion

Hi, nice article o nthe 1848 rbellion in Ireland, congratulations! One little quibble though, I've never heard it referred to as teh "famine rebellion" before. Isn't the Young Irelander Rebellon a more common name? Jdorney 11:25, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, but I can't take credit for the article; it was originally part of the entry on Ballingarry. I'd be happy to change it to its more commonly known name. Mary Read 10:06, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks a lot Mary Read!

Dear Mary Read, I want to thank you for all the help in fixing up the article on Ethic cleansing of Georgians in Abkhazia. You help was much needed (especially to someone who is new to Wiki). Thanks again and wishing you all the best. Regards. Noxchi Borz 23:56, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Happy to help. Mary Read 10:07, 18 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dates

Standard English and Wikipedia form for dates is: "(13 November 194515 June 2006)", not "(born 13 November 1945 – died 15 June 2006)". --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 10:41, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to bang on about this, but you're connecting dates with "[space][hyphen][space]" rather than with "[en-rule]" (no spaces). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 17:25, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
As I appear to be unable to follow the rather stringent rules for copyediting here at Wikipedia, I will be taking a sabbatical for an indeterminate period of time. Take care, Mel. Mary Read 22:04, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
Please don't cave in on us, Mary...last I read the guidelines for dates, it was NOT a 'rule' but the space was optional and using a "-" hyphen or the endash "&endash;" was also optional. I double checked and here is the link...check the "Dates of birth and death" and you will see that the GUIDE allows for both with and without space! Wikipedia:Manual of Style (dates and numbers) Keep up the good work and don't take one persons word too hard. Doc 23:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I certainly don't want Mary Read to stop copy-editing. The MoS seems to have changed (or there's a conflicting guideline somewhere else), and it conflicts with normal, virtually universal procedure elsewhere — but in any case, I've been editing here since 2004, and have made over 40,000 edits, and I still make mistakes and have to be corrected.

I should add that Wikipedia's MoS is rather less stringent than most, and allows much more leeway (not an advantage, to my mind, but there you go). --Mel Etitis (Μελ Ετητης) 08:11, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] One more...

Hi Mary,

I hope you don't mind all my requests from you, I have two more articles that needs copyediting:

Thank you very much! —Khoikhoi 04:11, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Simply Halston

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Simply Halston, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. Alucard (Dr.) 14:48, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mary! Well, that standard message came across a bit cold, so I am adding this. I got wind of this page when I was trying to sort out some people adding strange movies to the Zooey Deschanel page, and couldn't find any external references to Simply Halston. After digging around a bit I could only find rumours about it, and even the production company had no mention of it. So if we are going to keep the article we will need to find some sort of credible evidence of its existence, since I can't find any. I hope I did the right thing - am still a bit new around here! All the best. -- Alucard (Dr.) 14:50, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
