[edit] License tagging for Image:Dgmecol1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Dgmecol1.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 16:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Zappa

Hello Mark, I am impressed by the photograph of Frank Zappa you uploaded yesterday. It's a great picture and adds much to the article. Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful piece.

I would like to ask you, if you might consider uploading the picture to commons.wikipedia.org also. Commons, being a sister-project of Wikipedia, is Wikipedia's central media storage - Wikipedia of all languages can include the pictures that are stored there. Personally I very much would like to include your picture in the German de:Frank Zappa article, which lacks good pictures due to copyright restrictions, which apply there (Fair use of copyrighted matierial is not allowed).

If you should decide for uploading, could you please consider licensing the picture under a Share alike-Creative Commons license? This license would allow to include your picture in a lot of Wikipedias outside the US. An overview for this license is given at the official site of creative commons, the detailed legal code can be read here.

Not beeing a lawyer, this license seems to correspond to your copyright note "This work is copyrighted. The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose, provided that copyright holder is attributed." - but it would allow many other people to see your picture in a lot of other wikipedias.

Thank you for your time - please put any remarks, comments or questions here, I will check the place regulary to answer you.

[edit] Insulting behaviour

Paul McCartney article. May I suggest something to you, Markestabrook? Sorry, but your post is filled with childish comments. "anal compulsion"? Yes, I do have a compulsion to defecate (which is normal) but I wonder what you mean, exactly. "Bizarre"? Explain, please. "I will remove my photo of Paul and Linda from the Wings section" says a lot. It seems to be your photo, but are you promoting yourself? "infantile antics"? This makes me think you wrote your post when you were angry. You may have forgotten, but Wikipedia is about prose, and not only photography, although photographs are very welcome. I do not like to win at anything; I prefer teamwork, which is when we all win. The one thing I seriously object to is your suggestion that I "get a life". I have probably had more life than you have had hot dinners. Be nice, and let's work together. andreasegde 18:22, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

He appears to be the copyright holder. I hate postage stamp size pictures on Wikipedia too. Jooler 18:31, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
Try writing something and adding in-line citations, which is what Wikipedia really needs. andreasegde 18:40, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
I think you should read this: I have just checked out Markestabrook on the web, and he is an extremely talented photographer. I love photographs, which is why I always visit the Photographers' gallery when I am in London. To take out a photo because it is not big enough to suit one's own personal viewpoint is not democratic, or helpful. I have put it back, because it deserves to be in the article.
