[edit] WikiReader:A History of the 20th Century
Hey there. I'm not a history expert, but I am a wikiholic, and your idea for a Wikireader on the 20th century intrigues me. If you want help proofreading and editing articles to be included, I'll help out.
There's a few things not on your list yet that's I'd consider important to include. Among wars of the century there's some key ongoing conflicts that are good case-studies in nationalism and the causes of wars:
- The partition of India and Pakistan and resulting tension surrounding Kashmir
- The creation of Israel and subsequent conflicts
Other important issues to address:
- Civil rights
- Major genocides of the century
- Holocaust (already on your list)
- Bosnian War
- Rwandan Genocide series (unfortunately many articles are in need of attention or incomplete)
- Peacekeeping - History of the United Nations / Timeline of UN peacekeeping missions
Other random stuff:
- Spanish flu
- Energy crisis / OPEC
- Timeline of planetary exploration / Timeline of rocket and missile technology - fits with space race
- Timeline of medicine and medical technology / Timeline of vaccines- not particularly special, but this stuff sure is for our rapidly increasing lifespans
You have a much better idea of what you're going for with regards to focus and length, but that's just my input on what should be added. --Laura Scudder 23:50, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Some of these pages doubtless have duplicate material, but as I am also rapidly approaching exam season I only skimmed them. Should have more time when work replaces homework this summer. --Laura Scudder 16:06, 13 Apr 2005 (UTC)
[edit] UK COTW: Transport in the United Kingdom
Hey, just to let you know, an article you nominated, Transport in the United Kingdom, is this week's collaboration. Cheers! -- Joolz 19:25, 26 Jun 2005 (UTC)
[edit] DYK
Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Spined Loach, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page. |

Nice work there; I had a quick lookover and made the interwiki-links and cats, as well as some polishing and wikifying Lectonar give me your thoughts!
- Thanks a lot, it was getting late and I tended to rush through the little things!
Hi. Did you make Image:Ukmobilephonesubscribers05.PNG yourself? We need to tag all images so that fair use/dealing ones can be filtered out etc. The list of tags are at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags but if it's self made you probably want GFDL-self. Is Image:Ukmobilephonesubscribers05.JPG obsolete? Also where did you get the data from? Thanks! Secretlondon 07:05, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Caucasus Germans article
Hi Mark. I saw you had translated this article on the Translation request page and added it to the New article announcements on the Portal:Germany. If you don't want it listed there, please feel free to remove it. I just figured it deals with part of German culture and you hadn't already added it. If you want your contributions listed on the Portal going forward and they deal with German subject matter, please feel free to add them there. Thanks for helping with the translations. Happy Wiki-ing! --Mmounties 02:50, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Thanks much for translating that article! It's pretty interesting and therefore of importance in my opinion. The one thing is, you forgot to put the interwiki links! I put it into both now. Probably after translating all that it was the last thing on your mind. Thanks again Adam Mathias 03:02, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for both comments. Will try to bear them in mind in the future, though you're right, I usually run out of steam by the end of translating all that German. Cheers! --Mark Lewis 12:11, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Origin of water on Earth
I looked at your translation and it seems generally correct--if not better than my own. I have a lot of difficulty with scientific terminology, and so I had actually hoped that someone else would translate it. In other words, go right ahead. You might also want to check out the Origin of the world's oceans and consider merging it with this article, as both link back to the same German article. AmiDaniel 18:20, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Translation
Thanks for translating an article listed at Wikipedia:German-English translation requests. This is just a little reminder to remove the translation from the list when you've done it and add it to the "completed translations" list at the bottom of the page - thanks!
