[edit] help issue
Hello! It looks like I'm late to the party. The good thing about Wikipedia is that there are literally hundreds of bona-fide helpful people online at any given moment ready to jump in and help when they see a problem. Once you have a few more edits under your belt, you'll start to get the "move" tab at the top of your edit window, which will help when such errors occur (or when you come upon such errors); they hold off on immediately giving people the "move" power because it could easily turn into a mess if abused. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask --fastest technical answers usually come via the Wikipedia:Help desk. --Bobak 15:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Join Wikipedia: WikiProject Protected areas of India
Hi, liked your article on Manjampatti, i think u are interested in Protected areas of India. Why don't u join Wikipedia: WikiProject Protected areas of India. U can contribute to the National parks and sanctuaries of South India. As per ur comment on the talk page u are absolutely right to put the link there. Protected forests comes under this WikiProject. Best of Luck. Amartyabag (Talk) 10:39, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re:PA userbox image
First of all I have not removed the picture yet, I just proposed to be removed. The picture u suggested cannot be used as a part of North India and NE India is not visible. U can use the image for ur base.
As per u want to know wheather it is acceptable to solicit a knowlegable person, like a sanctuary director whom you don't know, to contribute to a wiki page. Wikipedia doesn't allow original research if u can provide reference to the article which is available in printed or other form it is acceptable. Amartyabag (Talk) 08:12, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- PA Userbox Image, 2nd Draft
Good Image?
Continuing about the acceptability of requesting help from knowledgable person outside Wiki:
I was thinking of initiating Knowledge capture from expert person outside Wiki with good knowlege of published sources on the subject
and ability to share good local photos, not originial unpublished research. is that OK?

[edit] About Manjampatti
I'm not sure how the name of the place was derived. 'Patti' is a common addendum for villages in Tamil Nadu (similar to 'ville' in the US or 'shire' in UK). However, the first word, 'Manjam' can mean multiple things one of them being the color Yellow. --Natrajdr 07:30, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
- Under the context of the song you'd mentioned, 'manjam' means bed/mattress. --Natrajdr 11:03, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi, manjal means yellow and patti is village (both in tamil and malayalam, and also in old kannada and probably in telugu too). Manjam is a malayalam variation of the word manjal. It most certainly means yellow village, and that could probably be because of its mango orchards. Thanks for seeking my help. Kris (talk) 17:48, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks
Well, I am nearly done sprucing up the project page. A few edits to the talk page will still be needed. Kaziranga is 2/5 completed and behind schedule. I'm proposing Silent Valley National Park for the month of March. What do you think ? ray 05:26, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Maps
Yes, there is a way, although it may take some trial and error to get it right.
- To crop an image, you would have to lower the canvas size, and move the image to make sure that the state boundary falls inside the canvas borders. The canvas size can be set via the Document Properties
- To select a district, use the Edit path nodes or control handles [or F2] button on the left bar to select your district. Then fill it with the appropriate colour.
- This image might be of some use Image:India Andhra Pradesh locator map.svg to start with.

[edit] JPL maps
I am using the software uDig. Let me know if you install it - I will look up my software and tell you exactly which map server to connect to. Cheers. ray 14:39, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Map
Okay, you need to go to the Catalog tab, right click and select Import, choose Map server, use the URL wms.jpl.nasa.gov . Once that server gets added, click on it to see all the datasets it offers, one of them would be global_mosaic, drag that into the main window. After that since its a world map, just zoom and pan to get where you want. To import the final picture, I was just using the quick and dirty Printscreen. Hope this helps, ray 16:21, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] udig troubleshooting
hmm .. that sounds like your udig is working, but something else is going wrong. i think i wasnt clear enough .. i am using xp as well , it took me some time and effort and some weird messages (like yours) to get udig running. I'd suggest reading the FAQ and maybe emailing their contact team ? in the worst case, you can tell me the lat - long, and i can get you the snapshots. cheers and good luck ! ray 01:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:WINSPA Collaboration of the Month
I think if u agree the next month (April) can be declared as a month of overall improvement. I have drafted a rough details of development. I will post this to several other user to collaborate. I will post this later today.Amartyabag TALK2ME 06:34, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Here goes the draft, pls check and if u like approve it.
Dear Marcus334,
For the last two months, since the creation of WikiProject Protected areas of India have seen good contribution from its members. As the part of the project, Kaziranga National Park and Silent Valley National Park were selected as the “Collaboration of the Month” for February and March, respectively and both of them achieved B on quality scale. Both the articles have good potential to become a Featured Article in near future. Thanks to the contributors who have helped in the project, with special thanks to ray and Marcus. Thanks to Ganeshk for including this WikiProject to the {{Template:WP India}} template. I, on behalf of this WikiProject also thanks the owner of Snowbot and LostBot for helping in tagging the articles. Thanks to Nichalp for the Dashboard and restructuring the project.
April 2007, is selected as the overall development of articles related to Protected areas of India. Firstly, we will improve the previously collaborated articles to FA level or atleast GA level. Second task will be development of List of national parks in India so that it can become a Featured List. Around 160 articles are unassessed, which need to be assessed. Members are requested to assess as many articles as possibe. Tagging the articles with appropriate tags, messages and Categorising them accordingly will constitute the last leg of this developmental process.
Hope your kind help and collaboration. Amartyabag TALK2ME 10:26, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Vattaparai Falls
If you want, I will ask for it to be deleted. I spent many hours on and off Wikipedia trying to find information on it and could not. I could find no consistent information and I have given up on the article. Even on Wikipedia there is conflicting information about that area. I am at a dead end regarding it. Sincerely, Mattisse 12:26, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Vattaparai Falls - you are doing a terrific job!
You are doing a terrific job on Vattaparai Falls! I have a question though. I could find no evidence that it is on the Vaigai River. Have you found some? I'll put a fact tag on it and you can reference it. Sincerely, --Mattisse 17:29, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Climate
Hi. I think that weather charts/tables in a protected area article might be overkill--it should be fine to just have the kind of detail (one or two paragraphs) found in the PA articles at WP:Featured articles#Geography_and_places. But if you still want data and charts, I suggest asking User:Amartyabag or User:Fowler&fowler (they seem to have access to very specialized print sources that I don't). Afterwards, if you want a nice svg graph, you can get in contact with User:Nichalp or User:Ambuj.Saxena, since my own last attempt failed miserably. Thanks. Saravask 13:55, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Kaziranga edits
Hi! I reverted a few of your edits in Kaziranga National Park. You removed subsectioning in "Geography" and "Climate" by removing the subsection headers and using bold fonts instead. But IMO it is not a solution. We have to either keep the subsections, or summarise severely so that subsectioning is not needed. (this can be aided by creating relevant daughter articles). I will have a go at it. However, your help will be needed. So if I can manage to create appropriate daughter articles and heavy summarising, I shall notify you for further copyedit. Also I removed breaking of paragraphs in the intro. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:06, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Hi! I have tried to bring "Geography" and "Climate" in single sections respectively. Also did a "Geology" section. now every section in the article is without any subsection, except in case of "Fauna". You can check out and edit. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 11:06, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi! While running a spell check, I mistakenly reverted some of your edits. Sorry. Please feel free to edit it again. Sorry, once again. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 19:05, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
