[edit] Discussion
right now, "jiminy glick" redirects to martin short. shouldn't there be some sort of character bio, a la Borat or Ali G? Lockeownzj00 07:12, 19 July 2005 (UTC)
Martin Short has opened in the musical "Fame Becomes Me" in San Francisco. Any reviews yet? It's still in previews, but fan opinion would be appreciated (or links to it)
[edit] Marty Schwartz?
Is there any truth that his name used to be Marty Schwartz? - Richardcavell 02:56, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
" His father was Charles Short " -I'm gonna guess "No". Mattwilkins 19:06, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Listing of famous patrons
Why are all these listed (for the opening of Fame Becomes Me)? What bearing does their listing have on the work of Martin Short?
Additionally, the Troubles in N. Ireland would not have prompted Marty's father to come over because the Troubles started in '69, if memory serves, at which time Marty would have been 19. -71.110.217.107 07:27, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- Addressing your second comment, the link nicknamed "Troubles" leads to an article named "Irish War for Independence" that discusses a conflict which began in 1919, according to the article. Is the nickname wrong? Should the nickname be changed and replaces with a link named after the article itself? The article itself seems to be correct.
- As for your first, the turnout at his opening night has huge bearing on his star power. The fact that Oscar and Tony winners came out to support him is very indicative of his level of fame and the respect for him within the industry, so I think it's hugely relevant to his career. But even if it weren't, the article's not about his work, it's about him (despite the fact that his work is the reason the article exists). Therefore, mentions of his family and friends are relevant even if they aren't related to his work, but in this case, they are. Layla12275 22:03, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Changes
I made some changes to the article....
- I removed a LOT of extraneous references to other people - the opening night attendees, his neighbors, and a lot of information about his wife. A lot of it either wasn't pertinent to him, or was just not encyclopedic. His wife sounds like she is an artist in her own right - if so, she deserves an article of her own, then. I realize that someone else commented with a different opinion, but there is no way that listing 50 names can be "relevant" to his work....there was actually more column space including that list than there was about some aspects of his work.
- I also grouped items together - career, awards and recognition, and family/personal life.
- The quotes pertain to his characters, and therefore should probably stay in the article, but it would be my humble opinion that the quotes section probably needs to stay the same size, and also that quotes should go to Wikiquote, which is the best repository for them.
