Marzagão is a small town and municipality in south Goiás state,Brazil.

Marzagão is located in the Meia Ponte Microregion in the extreme south of the state, less than 100 kilometers north of the great Itumbiara reservoir, which forms the boundary with the state of Minas Gerais. There are paved road connections with Água Limpa, 22 kilometers, and Caldas Novas, 33 kilometers.

In January 2005 the mayor was Claudinei Rabelo da Silva and the vice-mayor was Neilton Marcelino de Souza. There were 9 members on the city council and the number of eligible voters was 1,521 in 2004.

In 2003 the population density was 9.11 inhabitants/km². The population has almost doubled since 1080 when there were 1,095 inhabitants. From 1991 to 2000 the growth rate was 3.53.%. Most of the population is urban: 1,758 urban inhabitants and 321 rural inhabitants in 2003.

The economy is based on services, public employment, modest transformation industries, cattle raising, and agriculture. There were four industrial units and 15 retail units in 2005. The largest employer was the commercial sector with 38 workers in 2003. In 2004 the number of motor vehicles was: 216 automobiles, 22 trucks, 2 pickups, and 62 motorcycles.

The cattle herd had 18,295 head in 2004, while there were 2,865 dairy cows registered. Poultry and swine production was modest. The main agricultural products in planted area were rice--with 300 hectares--oranges--with 130 hectares--and corn--with 180 hectares.

In 2003 there was 1 hospital with 32 beds and 2 walk-in health clinics. In 2002 there were 7 doctors, 1 nurse, 2 dentists. The infant mortality rate was 13.91 in 2000, which was well below the national and state average.

In 2005 the school system had 4 schools, 20 classrooms, 33 teachers, and 755 students. There were no institutions of higher education. The adult literacy rate was 85.7% in 2000.

Marzagão is a relatively prosperous town. The United Nations Human Development Index (2000) ranked Marzagão 33 out of 242 municipalities in the state of Goiás and 1090 out of 5505 municipalities in all the country with a score of 0.779.
