Marymount Academy (or simply Marymount) is a public secondary school in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Directed by the English Montreal School Board (EMSB), Marymount offers both an International Program of Studies based on the philosophy of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as well as a Regular program of studies (MEQ).The school serves around 850 to 900 students of very diverse cultural backgrounds.

Marymount High School was founded in 1961 and offered programs separately for boys and girls. In 1970 these separate programs were merged under the Marymount Comprehensive High School. In 1984, Marymount Academy adopted its present name and was relocated to 5100 Cote St. Luc Road, where it currently resides. By 1990, school uniforms were instituted as compulsory, and in 1996 the International Baccalaureate Program was established.

Marymount Academy's staff consists of dedicated teachers and administrators who value their students' education and future. Marymount Academy's current administration staff include:

Ms. P. Miniaci was nominated one of the 52 top principals in Canada for the year 2006, the only one nominated in the province of Quebec. She was nominated for her outstanding effort in improving the school's atmosphere and reputation.

[edit] International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP)

Marymount Academy is proud to offer an International Programme of Studies based on the philosophies of the the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) Middle Years Programme (MYP).

The aim of the programme is to help students relate the content of the classroom to the realities of the world outside by combining knowledge, experience and critical observation. [2]

It is the goal of Marymount Academy and the IBO program to foster a respectful, caring and inclusive environment where students are empowered to meet the upcoming challenges of tomorrow.

The IBO MYP Curriculum Model is composed of a nucleus of five Areas of Interaction: Approaches to Learning, Homo Faber, Environment, Health and Social Education and Community Service.

Each student in the IBO program must be familiar with and incorporate these Areas of Interaction into their work throughout the year.

Marymount Academy is a paragon of Canadian multiculturalism. Marymount's diverse environment is composed of individuals from every ethnic group and religion. Marymount has a notable enrollement of Black, Italian, French, Irish, Sri Lankan, Indian, Pakistani, Bengali, Korean and English students.

All-time leading scorer of Montreal Impact soccer team and former Marymount Academy graduate. He and other former graduates visited Marymount in 2006 during the Public School Education Week to talk to the students about school, careers and how important the decisions they make are.
