Maryland Route 702 also known as Southeast Boulevard runs through Baltimore County in Essex. The route runs north-south starting from Interstate 695 and ends at Turkey Point Road in Essex.

The route was originally part of the Baltimore Beltway, which was to have run down Back River Neck, turn south to cross Back River, then southwest to the Outer Harbor Crossing. Plans also existed for the Beltway to connect to a new Chesapeake Bay Bridge and terminate in Tolchester, running via MD 21.

Part of this route was constructed east of U.S. 40 via MD 150 in 1973. Local opposition killed the completion of this alignment in 1978, leading to the diversion of the eastern half of the Beltway down a different route.

Plans to extend this route as a limited-access freeway were killed as part of local opposition; in the 1980s, a partial limited access route, designed to relieve congestion on the parallel Back River Neck Road, was approved. By 1990, the route was extended past the former MD 600, its temporary end for nearly twenty years, to a terminus on Back River Neck Road. Due to community concerns about noise, trucks over 5 tons are banned and the speed limit is 40, despite the Interstate-quality alignment.
