Maryland Route 36 is a state highway located in Allegany County, Maryland.

Route 36 is not officially a segmented road because it merges with US 40 West at their intersection in Frostburg and then separates from it again at North Water Street. However, the majority of people recognize the section from Westernport to Frostburg as a completely different road than the section from Frostburg to Cumberland and do not recognize the fact that Route 36 follows US Route 40 for a short period of time. This is mainly because these two sections of the road are very independent of each other and traffic does not generally flow between the two sections.
