Mary Rhys-Jones

Mary Rhys-Jones (1934 - 29 August 2005) was the mother of Sophie, Countess of Wessex. She was born Mary O'Sullivan in Ireland.

Rhys-Jones worked as a secretary before marrying Christopher Bournes Rhys-Jones, a tyre salesman. Their daughter, Sophie Rhys-Jones, married Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on 19 June 1999 at St. George's Chapel, Windsor, becoming HRH The Countess of Wessex.

Rhys-Jones died aged 71 at the Kent & Sussex Hospital in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
