Mary Pellatt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mary Pellatt (1912-2005) was niece of famous Torontonian and builder of Casa Loma Sir Henry Pellatt. Her father Mill Pellatt and Lucy Bowerman. Bowerman was later nurse to Sir Henry in his later life.

Ms Pellatt's father was a paymaster for Sir Henry's Toronto Electric Light Company, but her early life was paid by her rich uncle. She attended Bishop Strachan School and later Trinity College at the University of Toronto with a degree in music and social work.

Pellatt became a social worker and first worked at a residential school on native reserve in northern Ontario. She later moved to British Columbia and worked as a secretary of St. Catherine's Anglican Church in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Never married, she lived with her pastor until his death. She remained an active member of the Anglican Church and continued her work until 1974.

She died at a nursing home, far away from the fame and fortune of her early years in Toronto.
